Holiday Homework Pass

I decided to try and come up with something my kids would love for Christmas and would not break my piggy bank. The solution.... a holiday homework pass. They can't get that gift from anyone else, right! I made it generic without my name, so other teachers can benefit from using it. I will hang it from a little chocolate Santa lollipop.

As always, don't forget to visit my Teachers Pay Teachers store to find some fun and creative games and activities for the classroom.

Steps in a Process Writing Activity

This week's writing topic was steps in a process.  There are so many fun things you can do with this.  What did I decide to do?  Yep.... How to Decorate a Cupcake.  My kiddos were so excited when I pulled out the icing!  YUM!  Anything that involves food is a sure way to get them engaged.  I baked mini cupcakes the night before, and then each student got icing and candy to put on top.  While decorating the cupcake, they had to use their writer's notebook to jot down everything they were doing.  When they were finished, they got to use what I call 'pretty paper' to write their final copy.  Guess what!!  Here is the FREE "How to Decorate a Cupcake" themed writing paper if you would like to do it with your kids.

If you would like to do an extension of this writing activity, I have one to purchase in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. The topic of this one is How to Make Christmas Cocoa. This comes with everything you need for a Christmas Writing Center on the topic of  steps in a process.  Click HERE to check out all the details.

Two Digit Multiplication Activity

As a fourth grade teacher it is sometimes difficult to come up with fun activities related to multiplication.  Of course there are a few games that are great to play ( I even have some in my Teachers Pay Teachers Store), but I'm talking about a fun individual activity where the kids can get practice with their multiplication AND have get some of their creative energy out.

This is where the Multiplication Monster comes in.  Students will be solving two digit by two digit multiplication problems, and then based on those answers, the number of body parts will be determined. This is a fun activity for students to do to review multiplication of two digits or even use it in a math center. After students have put the correct number of body parts as determined by the math multiplication problems, they can add other details to make their monsters fun and colorful.  Because I did these at Christmas time, I found a Santa hat online that I just printed out and they glued it to the head of the monster.  I think they turned out pretty cute.

If you like this activity, you can purchase it from my Teachers Pay Teachers store by clicking HERE.

Although most of these are math games with a Christmas theme, a few of the activities might be more suitable for individual work. All of these activities can be found in my Teachers Pay Teachers store by clicking HERE.

Order of Operations Math Game

I gotta' (yes, I know that's not spelled correctly) tell you, some fourth graders can barely do basic multiplication and division, so when it comes to throwing another step into the picture, such as order, it can become quite challenging.  This week's focus is order of operations, and what better way to make things fun than with an order of operations game!!  The theme of this game is 'get in the groove' with order of operations.  It has a peace and love theme and is sure to get your kiddos in a happy mood.

This is a sample game that has been laminated and put in a file folder.

To purchase this game or for more info, click HERE.

In this game, students will solve problems using order of operations with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. This makes a perfect math center activity, as it fits perfectly in a file folder once laminated. There are 32 operation cards, an adorable cover sheet for the front of your file folder game, answer sheets, and directions. Your students are going to get in the groove with order of operations and have a smile on their face while doing it!
