Where is the LOVE?

I think this is just one more example of how some schools are getting so caught up in testing that they forget what it was like to be a kid. All they see are test scores and not smiles on kids' faces from getting a heart shaped box of chocolate on Valentine's Day. I'm not sure why this bothered me so badly, but it did. This was my son's school, and quite honestly, he could care less other than to tell me about it. He would not have even given anyone anything anyway, as it's just not his thing, but it's the point that bothered me. I think it was the part of saying that 'Valentines is a distraction to learning' that got me. I have had two middle school students before but I have never taught middle school, so maybe I am over reacting. I don't know. So, here is my thinking.........
